Thanks for the music and the nice AM signal out here on the West Coast!

Well, I went ahead and ordered the V4 dongle. So far, I've had limited time to play with it, but for those wondering about how hard the drivers are to set up, I have good news.

While I write about tech for a living, I have no better than amateur skills when it comes to installing and using tech. Setting up the dongle and the SDR# screen, however, is relatively easy if you follow the directions on the RTL-SDR website. I'm running it on a nearly four-year-old Lenovo laptop with Windows 11.

This one's absolutely blasting in here near Seattle, albeit with some distortion ...

0107 UTC: Punk-rock-sounding song for "Sycko Radio."
0109 UTC: OM on the mic for just a second, then another rock song.
0110 UTC: Santa saying "ho ho ho" at beginning of "New Order-586" by Red Angel Dragnet.
0118 UTC: OM on the mic, talking a bit over the music.
0120 UTC: More "ho ho hos" and a couple IDs as the New Order-esque music continues.
0123 UTC: "Rockin' out on Monday ... Christmas day" greetings into a Devo-esque song I didn't recognize.
0126 UTC: ID again, then "Pirate Radio" by Sweet Lizzy Project.
0131 UTC: "What Price Freedom" by Skrewdriver.
0133 UTC: Host with ID, mentioning "300 watts of madness" into a song that neither Shazam nor I recognize.

Thanks for all the music and merry Christmas!

Tuned in just as he was shouting out Skipmuck. Barely above the noise out here near Seattle, but very solid reception when tuning in via the Northern Utah SDR tonight.

0331 UTC: SSTV transmission. Some of those noises are breaking through nicely on my radio.

20
I checked in on this frequency a few times in the past half-hour, and I can hear the Christmas music directly here near Seattle.

21
Hearing this at a fair to good level directly here near Seattle ...

0030 UTC: "Judgement Day" by Lovebites.

22
Just barely audible directly at my radio near Seattle, but fair to good via the Northern Utah SDR with classical music as of 0011 UTC.

0015 UTC: "An American in Paris" by Arthur Fiedler (in progress when I tuned in).
0017 UTC: New classical piece started.
0022 UTC: Quick interruption of music for OM to shout out me, then back to the piece.
0037 UTC: Some operatic singing now. The Shazam app's not identifying any of this music for me.
0042 UTC: OM pauses the music to shout-out all of his listeners and give an ID. Then the classical music resumed.
0045 UTC: Off.

23
Listening via the NA5B SDR near Washington, D.C., which is receiving a very good signal ...

2309 UTC: News report on dangers for underage users of being on Facebook and other social media platforms.
2313 UTC: Continuation of the news report, mostly focused on Meta and Facebook.
2322 UTC: Promo for new series of "The Journal" talking about OpenAI and the recent controversy over its co-founder before returning to the original report.
2323 UTC: Off suddenly, then back on with report on the Consumer Price Index and inflation in general. Recorded on Nov. 16 of this year.
2340 UTC: Now a report on Sam Bankman-Fried's recent trial.

Sounds like CNR jamming Sound of Hope. This is a listed frequency for that.

25
Listening via the Northern Utah SDR, where the signal is fair to good ... I saw WAVE was playing Gary Numan, and I'm a huge fan, so I tuned in!

0053 UTC: "Listen to my Voice" by Gary Numan.
0056 UTC: YL voice with "W.A.V.E. Radio" ID; she said something else, but that was lost in the noise. Then off. :(

Listening via the NA5B SDR near Washington, D.C. - strong signal heard

0012 UTC: I heard Miss Scarlett and Professor Plum give an introduction to this piece of Christmas music from Dr. Demento's old show. They then played the dog-barking version of "Jingle Bells."
0014 UTC: Miss Scarlett and PP introducing a phone sketch about the Medicare Magic "All-in-All-in-All-in-One" health plan.
0016 UTC: "Up on the House Top" by Gene Autry, followed by a visit from Santa (who has a suspiciously synth-sounding voice). Santa gave the email address, followed by an ID from the Brain Brothers Pirate Radio Network.
0021 UTC: "Silver Bells" by Doris Day.
0024 UTC: Pitch for a snow-shoveling "unit" called Snow-Aid.
0026 UTC: Crapola Radio ID into "The Little Drummer Boy" by Henry Mancini.
0030 UTC: Another "All-in-One Medicare" sketch about ZIP code repair.
0033 UTC: Crapola Radio ID, then Burl Ives' version of "A Holly Jolly Christmas."
0035 UTC: Miss Scarlett and Professor Plum talked about the professor performing his "rap song." He then did that, with spoken lyrics from traditional nursery rhymes and kids' songs.
0037 UTC: Crapola Radio ID into "Please Come Home for Christmas" by Charles Brown.
0040 UTC: Professor Plum and Miss Scarlett wrapping up the program, shouting-out HFUnderground.com, and repeating the email address. "Thanks for listening in. See you again soon ... Professor Plum has left the building."
0042 UTC: Final ID announcement, then "The Star-Spangled Banner."
0045 UTC: JFK speech excerpt, a quick tone, and off.

Thanks for the pre-Christmas special!

2236 UTC: Off.

28
Listening via the NA5B SDR near Washington, D.C. ...

2146: Yosemite Sam repeating "I'ma gonna blow ya to smithereens!"
2148: The signal's gotten stronger during the past two minutes. Yosemite is still repeating the same phrase over and over.

Listening via the NA5B SDR near Washington, D.C., where the signal is loud and clear ...

2203 UTC: "What About Me?" by Kenny Rogers and Kim Carnes at No. 28.
2207 UTC: Ad break on this recorded program.
2211 UTC: "Cruel Summer" by Bananarama at No. 27.
2214 UTC: Casey back on the mic talking about the bands with the most No. 1 hits during the 1980s, followed by Hall & Oates at No. 26 with "Out of Touch."
(Based on this, this countdown's from the fall of 1984, when I was a couple months away from turning 14.)
2219 UTC: Casey introduces the song "The Warrior" by Scandal at No. 25.
2222 UTC: Casey with introduction to No. 24, "I Feel for You" by Chaka Khan. I checked, and I can hear this signal weakly via the Winnipeg, Manitoba, SDR and very, very faintly via the Northern Utah SDR. No luck directly on my radio further west here.
2227 UTC: Ad break.
2229 UTC: News break from this recording of 100.7 The Otter (which is out on the Oregon Coast, where I formerly lived), then more ads.
2233 UTC: Casey back with his introduction of No. 23, "Better Be Good to Me" by Tina Turner.
2237 UTC: Casey promoting "America's Top 40" affiliates and then introducing No. 22, "Strut" by Sheena Easton.

2320 UTC: I checked back at the Northern Utah SDR and I can now hear Casey at a readable level, introducing a Rod Stewart song, as the "gray line" moves west.

Thanks for the music and the hit of teenage nostalgia, 77LJS!
