I had a bit of a carrier there just after 1900 UTC this afternoon. Just enough to know there was something there when the radio was oriented their way. No audio or data to be heard.

Which receiver were you using? If it was one of the portables, it may have been an image of CHU on 7850.

I get a carrier and some audio from them on 6950 when I hook a couple of my portables to a decent outdoor antenna.

Bill Moyers once walked up on Al Haig in a White House hall smoking a Cuban cigar. Moyers goes " Al, you're the last man I'd expect to be smoking a Cuban cigar." Haig shoots back," I'm destroying the enemy's crops, one cigar at a time."

Moyers who was a great lover of Cuban cigars,(and was sneaking to the hall to have one), said it was one of the funniest moments of his career as White House correspondent.

Al Haig and Bill Moyers, cigar smokin' buddies. Who'd have thunk it?

Ask Al Fansome about a woman named Svetlana, Ladderline.

I don't know how many times I saw John Entwhistle and his band Ox, FF. It seemed like they were in town every couple of months when I was a teenager. Interesting band.

I the misfortune of being at the Who show in Cincinnati in '79. Hardly anyone inside the building knew the magnitude of what had happened outside. My friends and I didn't really get all the details until we were listening to the radio heading out of Cincy. There wasn't a lot of talking or laughing in the car on the long ride home.

Did the Russians cancel their scheduled space walk outside the ISS today? As of last night it was still a "go".

I guess it's "Putin vs. The Sun" now.

If I recall correctly, wasn't the split that broke Cream up over creative differences between Jack Bruce and Eric Clapton? Bruce's leanings were more towards jazz, with Clapton favoring the blues.

The guy was helluva bass player. RIP in Jack.

I had a book about the guy in my teens, but it's long gone. He was about as deep as you can get as a spy.

I understand it was RFI from his transmitter in his apartment building that got him noticed. Something about a radio saavy Syrian officer who lived in the building that realized the occasional RFI messing up his television was CW, if I recall correctly.

When the spy started sending code that final night, it was just a matter of going door to door. He knew the Syrians were on to him, but he did his duty.

I'll have to check out that film, thanks!

3840 is regular radio fun land.

Major holidays are when it's at it's peak. The week between Christmas and New Years sounds like the 3 Stooges vs. Hank The Angry Drunken Dwarf, but a tad less sophisticated.

Send it to Bill Gates. Then all of our problems will be solved.

BTW, did you open that account in the Cayman Islands?

Cousin?!!? Good grief. You've just ruined my reputation.

I sure hope we aren't related through the southeast Virginia branch of the family...

Well, now that you mention it.........

Did you ever hear stories about an indentured servant of the family with last name of Graves,(or Greaves, as some spell it)? He escaped into the Great Dismal Swamp, found someone (or something) to breed with, which they did like rabbits. They're now considered an invasive species in the Old Dominion and the states that border it, much like the fish known as the Snakehead.

Be careful if you encounter a Graves, they're mad as March Hares.

Excellent suggestions, Cousin Al.

I would go with the Gmail option. If you ask for them to post here and they do, they may give out their location, which with FM, is basically your location.

I heard WH2DXE Saturday night on 1740, just before 0:00 UTC with a fellow talking. There was a clear id at the top of the hour and more talk, but the audio on their end kept cutting out.

There was something on 1740 this afternoon at roughly 21:15 utc. It sounded like joy buzzer on steroids, with a powerful signal. 1-2 second bursts, an intermittent period of quiet for several seconds and another couple of bursts.

I listened to it for a few minutes, but decided to tune down the band to listen to the guys hollering at each other on a local sports show. Much more soothing to the ears.

The Mossad had a spy at very high level in the Syrian government in the early/ mid 60's. How did they communicate with him? A low power cw transmitter. He sent messages on the edge of one of Radio Damascus' MW frequencies sidebands.

R. Damascus ran a few hundred kW and swamped everything in the region of the frequencies they used. The Syrian military couldn't hear the spy's QRP cw signal nestled beside that flamethrower.

The operation ran for nearly a decade, but the spy was finally df'ed and hanged

At one time they used to transmit exclusively in USB mode. I wonder if they've gone back to it?
