Huh? / Nice LPAM Dutch site translated by Boomer!

Lots of good AM info here,     http://boomerthedog.net/morningstar-low-power.htm

I'm not talkin' about the official AM Rally that 1st weekend in February, but that informal rally they call the Heavy Metal Rally. It might be this weekend. Guess I'll burn the dust off of those 811A's.    http://www.amrally.com/

Um... Did ya hear them last night? Just skipping on 1/2 a word again. Hmmmmmm... Back to a 100W to advertise their technical incompetency? OK...

Huh? / Is It Time for Radio to Restore Dynamic Range?
« on: January 05, 2021, 1920 UTC »
Well, if they are going to even attempt a better DR, dump the MP3 format! That would be one improvement.    https://www.radioworld.com/columns-and-views/guest-commentaries/is-it-time-for-radio-to-restore-dynamic-range

Huh... Interesting timing, since the latest HAM Talk Live is about constructing a helical antenna,    https://www.spreaker.com/user/hamtalklive/episode-240-new-helical-antennas        Now, for Part #15 MW broadcasting, you have that 3 meter length limit, but they don't say how wide that should be. (Hint-hint...)

Amateur Radio / 630M activity? Sounds like it.
« on: January 02, 2021, 0011 UTC »
At 23:30UTC, hearing what sounds like a very slow like FT-8, FT-4, activity on 475.500kHz. About an S3 carrier level my way. Can anyone else hear, decode, and ID that? If I'm not mistaken, 630M in the USA is limited to 5W PEP, so interesting to hear where that QRP is coming from.

Equipment / Re: Why 50 ohm coax cable?
« on: December 29, 2020, 2133 UTC »
Yep... I've used RG-59 and RG-6 coax for years from VHF TV, FM RX'ing, HF longwires, and scanners. Heck, come to think of it, I'm using it for TX'ing from the Talking House / I Am Radio AM transmitter to the ATU. That's all F-59, 75 Ohm coax standard.

Amateur Radio / 6M / 10M rocked last night on East Coast!
« on: December 29, 2020, 1823 UTC »
Heard Ft. Lauderdale on 10M, 28.400MHz around 7:30PM. Then, I had to go to work. However, on a COVID-19 Repeater Net, Net Control wanted to wrap-it-up to work GA and FL on 6M, just after 9PM EST. (Yeah figures... I always miss the good stuff.) So, Winter "E" season is here!

Just before work, I heard CB CH6 rockin', then LSB CH38, where I heard a dude from Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Then, very weak, but heard Ft. Lauderdale again on 10M, 28.400MHz. Then, I had to go to. However, on a COVID-19 Repeater Net, Net Control wanted to wrap-it-up to work GA and FL on 6M, just after 9PM EST. (Figures... I always miss the good stuff.)

Yes, and no... HF still has the feature of being anonymous. You don't know who is listening, unless they tell you. However, it could put a bigger clinch on terrestrial broadcasting, unless you use this system as a network linking. Lots of possibilities here, but which way they will actually go is anyone's guess.

MW Loggings / KCJJ1630, Iowa City.
« on: December 28, 2020, 1803 UTC »
What was suppose to be an early IN / OUT at work on a Sunday evening turned out to be the wait from hell. So, scanned the AM band in the truck. KCJJ 1630kHz was mainly the clear signal winner with tunage. Wow!!!! They don't voice track, but are live, to 9PM CST? Huh... Stations around here in WV usually all voice track it from 5PM, onward. So, neat to listen to, and gave me the heads-up on the big storm that's suppose to dump on Iowa City there this week, might dump later on us. Oh... And, CBS News at 10min before the TOHID? That's a lil' different. Nothin', on 1710kHz.      www.1630kcjj.com

Is that what I heard driving to and from work last night? I thought that it was Pensacola, FL again, battling it out with Cuba. So, that may be it.

793
Yes!!! And something like this can be done, again. Either a solid state version, or keep it tube-type.

What's is nice about The Talking House, a.k.a. I Am Radio, transmitter is that it is PLL agile from the whole AM broadcast spectrum, while the Sean Cuthbert AM Stereo transmitters low-end stops at 1MHz. Still a very usable agile transmitter to do tests with a simplified AM Carrier-Current Coupler, albeit that below 1MHz is more ideal for Carrier-Current. Boomer is working on getting the best effective toroid 50 Ohm to 10 Ohm, or less, RF / AC isolation transformer. At least, find a good compromise that's effective, yet broadband enough. Oh!!!! Check out PLC = Power Line Coupling that companies are using in medium wave for data communications. I guess that we could call this Carrier-Current 2.0?

Be listening for ISS sending out SSTV of Christmas Greetings! They did that at least three times overnight.
