Checking out the top of the MW band and found music on 1710.  No ID yet but suspect Radio Corsair based on the spacey music.  S6 over moderate storm noise.

North American MW Pirate Radio / UNID 1720 AM 0010 UTC 6 Jan 2020
« on: January 07, 2020, 0011 UTC »
1720 is active right now, male speaking, some whistling heard.  Off at 0004 UTC and returned a few minutes later.  Barely above the noise floor here, unable to make out any speech.

48
Someone (maybe Radio Corsair?) with relaxing electronic music, strong at times but with long deep fades.  No announcements heard yet.

0146: ID and tech talk dialog regarding audio chain, transmitter, transmitting antenna, etc.

Fair during fade-ups with Spanish (or Spanish religious?) music, no talk heard.  Best on the South wire.

Longwave Loggings / LWBC: 153 Romania into Michigan 27 Sept 2019
« on: October 02, 2019, 0040 UTC »
0002 UTC: I was doing a casual bandscan a few nights ago of the LWBC channels and came upon weak music on 153.  I've never heard anything on 153 before, not even a carrier, so this intrigued me.  I was able to match up this music with Romania's SRR Antena Satelor:

So..a new one for the log book!

Weak under heavy static and best on my North antenna with relaxing instrumental music.  This definately isn't Tater Patch Radio.  Also found it on the Rockport, Maine Kiwi SDR with a much better signal.  Guessing this is the same one that Chris Lobdell reported a few days ago on 1710.

EDIT: ID and email heard at 0043 UTC with what sounded like Radio Corsair with email address and solicitation of reception reports(!)

Off at 0153 UTC with no further announcements.

Thanks for the nice music and the ID!

0302z: Hearing music, possibly Adele's Someone Like You, very faint bubbling up from the noise floor on the North antenna.
0317z: another fade-up with slow female vocals, possibly a country song.

53
Huge S9 signal and sounding great at sign-on a few minutes ago.  Looking forward to the Christmas show - thanks Redhat!

Off-air recording capturing most of the show with a good signal the majority of the time:

54
Presumed the Community Radio Network station with old time crooner music, just above the noise floor here but fair on the occasional fade-ups.

0207z: The First Noel and into announcement and what sounded like a live time check.

Utility / MW Arctic coastal maritime logs Nov. 28, 2018
« on: December 08, 2018, 2100 UTC »
Here are two new logs captured from a SDR recording while monitoring 1710 for pirates and other oddities.  These are weak signals, so the use of headphones is encouraged!

1713 kHz Vardø Radio, just a few kHz above the BCB broadcast band and located at the Northern tip of Norway, with maritime report in Norwegian language:  https://youtu.be/S0yYRPrrSnc

1731 kHz Svalbard Islands, a little stronger and also in Norwegian with maritime report: https://youtu.be/hUwtV7RgIUE

Svalbard is about as North as one can get for a radio station carrying any kind of voice transmission and probably qualifies as my most Northern logged station to date.

There are several coastal maritime stations still operating between 1710-1800 kHz that make great DX targets.

Latin American Pirate / UNID 1715 kHz USB 0130 UTC 7 Dec 2018
« on: December 07, 2018, 0132 UTC »
MW peskies???  While monitoring 1710, I'm catching some UNID comms on 1715 USB, extremely faint even with the 20 db preamp switched in.  Language is tentatively Spanish, but it's very weak and difficult to make out.  Because it's on my South antenna, I can safely rule out any Trans-Atlantic coastal maritime stations.  Have our South American friends ever heard such communications before in this segment of the band (1710-1800 kHz)?  0142 UTC now and it seems to be gone.

1710 currently has two weak stations @ 0111 UTC taking turns on my South DKAZ loop. The dominant one is a male Spanish preacher from an UNID station that matches none of the following 1710 stations:

https://www.radioretenloquetienes.com/
http://www.1710amtualtarradial.com/
http://anointing7.com/#radioenvivo

More interesting is the second station I'm hearing playing old time stuff from the 1940s thru the 1970s that occasionally comes out of the noise. Unknown if this is the "West Rockingham" station I heard a few nights ago. <------Same station, see below:

0144 UTC: The Flamingos "I only have eyes for you"
0200 UTC: Chimes at top of hour and faint mention of "Rockingham".  These bells or chimes at TOH match the "West Rockingham" station I logged a few nights ago and I can confirm this is the station playing the adult standards and oldies.
0224 UTC: Weather forecast from pro sounding live announcer and into Dan Fogelberg's "Longer".

UNID, S6 or so on fade-ups:

0200z: Santana - Evil Ways
0203z: Announcement during fade

Very poor copy but with a 20db preamp sitting on 1710, I'm hearing a woman preaching (yelling) "hallelujah! hallelujah! hallelujah!" rising out of the noise, but the prononciation is more like "hallelusha".  I could be wrong, but it doesn't sound Spanish and it doesn't match Radio Reten out of Baton Rouge.  Any ideas?  Another mystery!

After listening to the recording again, it is Spanish, so it seems another Spanish language religious pirate is occupying 1710, aside from the Baton Rouge station.
