About that pic below your name, Al. Are you hinting that you're either D.B. Cooper or the Zodiac Killer? The police sketches of those two always looked alike to me. Given the Zodiac's penchant for cryptography.......

Choat, I was by myself and hoping the bear would go the other way. It did. My guess is it thought I smelled worse than it did?

Well, there's one about putting your location in your sig tag on an open forum.

Equipment / Re: Portable Radio Antenna Problem
« on: October 12, 2014, 1434 UTC »
There should be a small hole for a screw, just below the socket the whip fits in. Insert the whip base into the socket, lining the hole in its base with the hole for the screw in the radio. (You'll probably need a lamp or a flashlight so you can see when things are aligned.)

Insert the screw, tighten it up and you're done.

Whips sometimes have little brass washers that fit around the hole in the base. They're a pain in the ass to get seated, but nothing a couple of drops from a hot glue gun can't take care of. Scrape away the excess glue. As long as the brass, the screw and the hole in the base of the whip have good metal on metal contact with the hardware in the antenna socket, you're golden.

How do they compare with Devil's phone booth, Al?

I've got a Grundig G-5 from the same factory that has a wobbly antenna base. I tighten the screw that holds the base in place, every couple of months.

General Radio Discussion / Re: Prepaid cell phones for pirate DJ's
« on: October 11, 2014, 0148 UTC »
Yup. Several have since the mid-90's.

You could possibly be traced by the tower(s) that receives the majority of the calls. A cellphone is nothing but a glorified low powered walkie-talkie dependent on line of sight propagation. Once the authorities get the general location of the phone towers hit most frequently by callers, df'ing the station shouldn't be hard.

However, a hit and run pirate that uses multiple sites/phones and keeps transmissions short could probably pull it off.

Bears do indeed, sh!t in the woods. In large, pungent amounts. Detour around bears doing their business, if you can.

Remember, you can't outrun a bear or it's gases.

More tips in the upcoming weeks. I thank you.

Great Leader has a great sense of wonder regarding the unusual. How do you think he met Dennis Rodman and Al Fansome?

Update: South Korean officials report Great Leader is no longer in Pyongyang.

Has he gone to the Crystal Cave in Unicorn Mountain to join his Immortal Father and Grandfather?

That van by the river doesn't look so bad now, does it Al? Bring a cheap battery for the van, set up a Yagi on the roof for wi-fi, a cage trap and maybe a trot line to catch breakfast........why you'll live like a King!

How are you when it comes to serving up pigeon eggs and possum?
