UNID'd Help Needed! 6190khz and 7390khz, 1800UTC Wed Sept 20. Heard at my QTM in western Alaska with the same short,  single patriotic march type music tune on a loop over and over with dead air gaps in between each playing., 6190 was weak but audible. 7390 was much clearer and stronger.

No ones listed on those frequencies at this time. Who is it? I have a crude audio recording at the link below of what I heard

Shortwave Broadcast / An Interesting Day On SW In Alaska....
« on: September 10, 2023, 2107 UTC »
WELLLLL.. it's been a VERY interesting day on Shortwave radio so far!

I heard World Music Radio on 15700khz from Denmark at 2002UTC playing a spanish merengue type song followed by a station jingle then a slower more laid back yet not a ballad type spanish song. Station is licensed for 2KW beaming at 180 degrees azimuth but only runs 300 watts! SINPO was 45344.

Then I had VOA Afrique with hit music on 9470khz via Botswana at 2024UTC, they switch to Hausa at 2030UTC also on 9470khz via Sao Tome & Principe. Well, STP signed on 2 minutes early with the french transmission still playing music and STP fired off the "This is the Voice Of America, Washington DC signing on" followed by Yankee Doodle.

Shortwave Broadcast / More R. Havana Cuba Shenanigans
« on: August 28, 2023, 0511 UTC »
Tonight, one of their transmitters is 100khz off.  9700khz is missing… it’s down on 9600khz. Second time in a week I've heard it 100khz off, but I also heard it back on 9700 after the first night I heard it on 9600!

AND… it’s broadcasting some English language horror movie!

About 2 weeks ago, 5025khz Radio Rebelde did British then German tv audio of some sort, the domestic Rebelde network was normal.

And a few days before 5025, 9700 broadcast a Robin Williams movie.

MW Loggings / SD In AK!
« on: August 26, 2023, 2325 UTC »
......And no, I’m not talking about San Diego.

I do primarily SW DX now and bought a TEF6686 radio to use with my 15 foot wellbrook loop.

It apparently does AM real well with the loop.

I was tuning across the AM dial, and suddenly heard the voice of a weatherology.com/weather eye meteorologist I recognized on 1060Khz … who ended the forecast with “from the South Dakota state lottery weather center” … followed by some generic national commercials and a KGFX liner!

1kw at 2500 miles.. and might I add fairly clear for a minute or two.

...I'm not sure what to call what I heard last night/this morning

They were broadcasting english language movie audio last night in the 0700UTC. Not just snippets, but an entire Robin Williams movie.

The slightly odd but not shocking thing was, RHC program audio was heard under the movie audio. The movie audio was quite well heard, clean, easy to understand.. the program audio was way way under that barely rising to barely detectable levels.

Even after 9700 should've signed off, it continued on.. but solely with audio from another movies audio.

Not sure what in the world was going on!

Shortwave Broadcast / Shortwave Australia 4835khz
« on: August 16, 2023, 1525 UTC »
Logged "Shortwave Australia" on  4835khz around 0840UTC or so Aug 16th here in McGrath, Alaska. (Dont have exact time, as my notes arent near me) But the station was playing older non rock n roll music and there was a mention by the male announcer of "weather".. was being chewed up by WWCR on 4840.

I use a TEF6686 radio, EMTech ZM2 tuner, Wellbrook 15 foot loop and DXEngineering preamp.  I'm 370 km nw of anchorage, in the west central Alaskan interior.

4835 uses Antennas a dipole about 60 feet off the ground, running approx. 100 watts, plate-modulated AM transmitters. ERP is maybe a few hundred watts, if that.. according to comments on the Amateer Radio Australia facebook page

NEW SW LOG!! World Music Radio on 15700khz with 200W beamed at 180 deg. az from Randers, Denmark logged at 1914UTC Mon May 29th in McGrath, Alaska. Heard with several songs including "Rock The Casbah" several minutes in.

SINPO was teetering close to 35444 on fade ups but down to 23333 or worse 20 minutes in.  ATS 215 Max Radio, 15 foot wellbrook loop, DXEngineering Preamp and EmTech ZM2 tuner

Both were logged early morning (local, UTC Afternoon) May 28th. Bolivia is a new country for me on SW, and while Peru isnt, 4820 is a new station to me.

voice was a bit tough but when either played music it popped out nicely.

Shortwave Broadcast / Radio Vanuatu
« on: May 18, 2023, 0055 UTC »
This past weekend, 11835khz had a noticeable hum.. the next day and subsequent days, it hasnt been on the air.. 7260 continues on past 0700UTc, when it should sign off.

I gotta think this 11835 is intentional at this point, after 3-4 years!

Shortwave Broadcast / Distortion From Voice Of Korea, Pyongyang
« on: May 07, 2023, 1846 UTC »
They've been sliding downhill for the last 6 months or so and they were already cruddy enough.. not quite to the level of Cairo and cuba but theyre about there.. this doesn't appear to affect all their language services though.

Here's a link to a video I shot showing how bad it's gotten in Pyongyang.

Shortwave Broadcast / Radio Tarma 4775khz Peru Apr 8 0956UTC
« on: April 29, 2023, 0026 UTC »
So, I *MUST* share what is probably one of my best SW logs to date. This will about blow your socks off!

Back on Saturday night/very very early Sunday morning local time (Sunday morning UTC) here at my McGrath, Alaska QTH, I had some real good central/south american reception on HF... so about 0953UTC I decided to tune across the tropical bands where some central/south american stations still reside.

I got to 4775khz and while I had CODAR Hammering away ((Coastal Ocean Dynamics Applications Radar), I also clearly had a carrier for something else at 0953UTC so I hit record and waited. .and boy was I rewarded!!

This is 1kw non directional Radio Tarma from Peru on 4775khz .. and despite CODAR hammering the piss out of it, you can very clearly hear the music and theres a commercial in my recording where you can make out the phone number.  The recording gets much better 15 minutes in.

I swear if you listen closely, you can tell theres a carrier under the CODAR when my recording begins before the music kicks in 10 seconds later!

The picture is from the Radio Tarma SW Dipole antenna from the AM/FM/SW Transmitter site on the mountain outside of Tarma, Peru. The ppicture is from DX'er Don Moore's website where hes got alot more awesome stuff  http://www.donmooredxer.com/

Here is my audio recording:
