Huh? / WBCQ: Radio transmitter engineers wanted?

Radio transmitter engineers wanted

WBCQ Radio is seeking radio transmitter engineers to work at our 500KW shortwave station. Come to northern Maine and get away from it all. Nice working environment, good pay, great people, fun work with BIG transmitting and antenna equipment. Contact Allan and Angela Weiner at 207-538-9180. Please send resumes to wbcq@wbcq.com.

Damn!!!! Talk about a dream-job! 20-some years ago, I would've thought about hopping on that like flies on doggie-doo-doo. Sucks getting old, since one of the reasons for leaving WNY was the winters from hell. Still, could be a dream-job for someone.

Huh? / Why There’s More Music on AM Now?
« on: January 29, 2021, 2009 UTC »
I've notice that too, there seems to be more AM stations with tunage, again. Radio Survivor has noticed that too,    http://www.radiosurvivor.com/2021/01/18/why-theres-more-music-on-am-now/

That, and Boomer found an updated AM Stereo Map on facebook,    https://www.facebook.com/groups/iloveamradio/
Neat radio dump site, but I didn't see the map. Maybe, y'all can play 'Where's Waldo' and try to spot that?

For you AM TX'ing fans out there, Boomer FWR this to me. A neat read, for sure,     https://www.radioworld.com/tech-and-gear/tech-tips/quick-we-need-a-temporary-am-antenna

NICE!!!!! I copied & paste those VID on to The FRN. There are Part #15'ers over, that don't come over here. Duh-know why, but....  Oh... And I also dumped these to my newer Minds.com page,      https://www.minds.com/groups/profile/876322093051867136/feed

Practically, very little activity is in the 11M International Broadcast Band, 25.670MHz - 26.100MHz. Modify a CB antenna, or just put up a dipole, as high as possible. You'll hear CB outbanders in there during "E" openings, but for the most part, it's empty space, except some broadcast NBFM Auxiliary Stations still out there, but their numbers are dwindling more each year. If you are on a hill, or can put up an 11M Vertical up as high as possible, 100 miles can be had, day, or night. Especially, with a beam antenna. Another bands that's open-wide, with little activity, is the 15M International Broadcast Band, 18.900MHz - 19.020MHz. Also, it wouldn't be tough to retune a 20M antenna for the 22M Band,  13.570MHz - 13.870MHz, (Although, pirates have used 13.900MHz with success a few times.) Just below that, the Part #15 ISM band, (Centered at 13.560MHz.), covers a few miles with just a couple of milliwatts. Anyway... There's lots of little used upper HF spectrum right now, so you can almost take your pick, just don't step on military COMM's.   http://www.hamuniverse.com/shortwavebandfreqs.html

Amateur Radio / ARRL VHF Contest on, now!
« on: January 16, 2021, 1954 UTC »
This snuck up on me,  https://contests.arrl.org/janvhf/    I might try Sunday to work that. The contest that I'm waiting for is the AM Rally,   http://www.amrally.com/    I'm a lil' better prepared for that one, finally.

Well, what I wanna' know is, since it's a new year, did it do a format change?

594
Interesting. Listening to a caller to the American Journal, with Harrison Smith, this morning, a caller whom was on MURS CH3, (151.940MHz FM.), during the 1/6/2021 D.C. Rally, heard someone key-up and shout, "Ring-a-ling, ring-a-ling!!! We're in the Capital BLDG!". Then, all that meyham started. Hmmmm...

That 1W, 10kHz step, Spitfire would be great for Carrier-Current Coupling for the USA and Canada. And, permissible too.

Huh? / Nice LPAM Dutch site translated by Boomer!
« on: January 09, 2021, 1821 UTC »
Lots of good AM info here,     http://boomerthedog.net/morningstar-low-power.htm

I'm not talkin' about the official AM Rally that 1st weekend in February, but that informal rally they call the Heavy Metal Rally. It might be this weekend. Guess I'll burn the dust off of those 811A's.    http://www.amrally.com/

598
Um... Did ya hear them last night? Just skipping on 1/2 a word again. Hmmmmmm... Back to a 100W to advertise their technical incompetency? OK...

Huh? / Is It Time for Radio to Restore Dynamic Range?
« on: January 05, 2021, 1920 UTC »
Well, if they are going to even attempt a better DR, dump the MP3 format! That would be one improvement.    https://www.radioworld.com/columns-and-views/guest-commentaries/is-it-time-for-radio-to-restore-dynamic-range

Huh... Interesting timing, since the latest HAM Talk Live is about constructing a helical antenna,    https://www.spreaker.com/user/hamtalklive/episode-240-new-helical-antennas        Now, for Part #15 MW broadcasting, you have that 3 meter length limit, but they don't say how wide that should be. (Hint-hint...)
