HF Beacons / 26 MHz beacons?
« on: February 03, 2013, 2041 UTC »
I saw report of a beacon sending "AAL" on 26935 kHz so I listened for it this afternoon and heard it. I also found what seemed to be a whole cluster of beacons - dashers or QRSS - around 26965. One sounded like someone fooling around with a hand key, sent "0" quite a few times and then sent some other things on CW (sounded like "4", "HI"). There were at least four other signals in there, spaced 100 Hz of so apart.

I have never listened to this segment of the SW band for beacons before, so I don't know if that is what I was hearing or not. The transmissions seemed to be too short to be AM transmissions by CB'ers and I could detect no modulation on any of them.

Has anyone else heard these?

Very weak here, S0. I can just tell there is a signal in there but can't copy anything.

Came on with music. Played a Doors song, part of another song, Michael McDonald "Minute By Minute," then Radio Gaga ID.

Signal about S9+10 here, some QSB. 45434.

Strong here too at 2130Z. S9+20. Great audio.

Still going strong at 2225Z. Some QSB now and then. Playing quite a range of music. I heard a Jeff Beck song a while ago and they just played Tom Jones "It's Not Unusual."

Just went QRT at 2256Z. Thanks for the show, Family Radio!

Who's next on frequency?  8)

"This is ... Radio" with echo effect on voice, said about a dozen times. Weak here, I couldn't make out what they were saying. I only heard an ID, then gone, no program.

The same station is now (0050Z) on 6925.0. It is really weak here, USB, maybe S5. I heard a repetitive "Radio ___" but couldn't make out the blank.

0054Z Female voice W___  ___ Radio but still can't make it out here.

0058 I hear the "White Punks On Dope" now.

0100 Ad for Job rolling papers and WPOD ID.  :)

0110 Off. Thanks for the show!

HF Beacons / Listening for beacons 30 Jan 2013
« on: January 30, 2013, 1916 UTC »
Last night I woke up at 5 am (1100Z) and couldn't get back to sleep, so I listened for all the beacons I know of in the range 4060 to 8000 MHz. I did not hear a single one. For a while I had a slight hint of something showing up on 4079.6 on spectrum display but I could not hear the CW of the TMP beacon.

I guess it was just a bad night propagation-wise? Has the whole season been poor? I haven't spent a lot of time listening for these beacons this winter but I've tuned around every couple weeks and didn't hear anything then, either.

I can barely hear the audio, something sounded like "Hello Radio" and something about Kracker.

0116Z heard Radio Jamba International ID

Decent signal in Illinois, S9, no QSB. Signed off with "6295 USB. Just throwing out a little audio."

HF Beacons / "K" beacon 7039.3
« on: January 09, 2013, 0504 UTC »
I've been hearing this Russian beacon for about an hour now. It seemed to peak at around 0430Z but still there at 0500Z. Signal was a good S5, now in and out of the noise around S2 average.

Interesting, the original list included some frequencies in the 40 meter ham band. Are those still active? Will give a listen this evening.

I got one too. I just posted it in the QSL section. Maybe I shouldn't have done that. It's a beautiful card, anyway!

QSLs Received / Radio Ronin Christmas card
« on: December 19, 2012, 1607 UTC »
Not a QSL, but I received a Christmas e-card from Radio Ronin Shortwave. Very cool! Thanks!

I haven't heard this station before. I guess it wasn't GORU Ocean Radio, but BOR Blue Ocean Radio. Signals not so great here during their broadcast.

75
At least that's what I think they ID'ed as. Signal not terribly strong, lots of QSB, 34333. Playing theme from 2001: Space Odyssey (Also Sprach Zarathustra) with ID at 0117Z.
