Shortwave Broadcast / Re: Russia Radio Magic Eye Friday

I'm at work too but I'm listening via Twente where they are doing pretty well. They were S9 for a bit at 14:00z but they've dropped down a bit to about S7. Nice tunes & Russian speaking OM. The frequency tag on Twente says MTUSI I guess thats the university?

16:03 utc
I made it home in time to check on my rigs.
25900 at 16:04 utc   just barely barely audible in AM with audible carrier in usb. Occasional bits of audio in AM but really very weak.

I am able to tell when the carrier goes off at 16:10 utc with BFO on Satellit 750 & A/D swl sloper antenna.

Clandestine Stations / Voice of Tibet monitoring

I tried to check out the  VOT/CNR jamming game this morning via Twente while I pretended to work in my office. I intuned at about 13:35 utc to 15563 & found VOT on frequency with the Chinese jammer (CNR1) on 15560 completely destroying them. VOT left 15563 at 13:41 & I QSY'ed to 9338 expecting to find them but only found the jammer on 9340 (mostly noise but a weak CNR1 too). QSY'ed back to 15563 & found VOT unmolested on 15563 until 13:49 when CNR1 came up on 15565. After a quick check for Radio Magic Eye on 25900 I rechecked 15563 at 14:02 & found VOT again unmolested (mostly unmolested a weak noise jammer was on freq). The CNR1 jammer returned at 14:07 on 15565. VOT moved to 15557 at 14:08.

Not sure about Sri Lanka being in English at 2:30 utc. Aoki  EiBi & HFCC all list SLBC as Hindi at this hour. The only English from them on 11905 is at 3:00utc on Saturday & Sunday. It does sound very much like you heard ERTU (Radio Cairo) general service in Arabic.

General Radio Discussion / Re: YHWH - 3/18 update
« on: March 20, 2014, 0322 UTC »
I finally heard this one tonight! For about 10 seconds. Intuned to music on 7175 LSB and the announcement "...this is radio station YHWH signing off." Off at 2:05. I couldn't find him between 5600 - 5900 when I searched there until 2:15 utc.

Lately I have been really into British sitcoms most of which are entirely new to me (Dads Army is my favorite) & I ran across this one in which Tony Hancock, a very well known comedian of the time in the UK portrays an amateur operator with an impressive setup in his home. He's a little confused about frequencies/wavelengths though, at 2:39 he states that he is on "10.4 meters...250 megacycles per second".

I could hear them at 3:00z on the barefoot pl380 with their interval signal (not an interval signal as such since they don't play it during the interval between language services but at the beginning of the various services) & into Spanish. I had forgotten that they are in English an hour later. Fair to good here. Weaker on //13760.

Heard in parallel to 6180 & 11780. I don't see it listed anywhere & I don't think its Radio Guaiba the Brazilian I see listed in Aoki, as it goes off (if its even on) at 3:00z. Causing a het to Radio Havana I measure this station at 5999.6. I first noticed it as a het on RHC on my PL380 while walkng the dog. After getting home I can see it plainly on the SDR waterfall. I can only hear the audio during those rare moments when RHC is fairly quiet. First heard about this one in DXLD/WOR as logged by GH.

It might have been firedrake. Heard poorly sometimes only the higher frequencies come through & the drums get lost in the muck. FD has been logged on this frequency for 20 or so hours a day.

KCMO just installed wifi on the city buses & I was able to tune in via Twente to Voice of Khmer M'Chas Srok as I went to work today. 20 over S9 into NL. Due to schedule this is the only way I will be likely to hear this one. Numerous mentions of Cambodia.

254
Intuned at 2:19z to "Send lawyers , guns & money" by Warren Zevon. signal is a bit fadey hitting S9+ on peaks & down to S6 on fades. Thanx for the show Renegade.

Hi Daniel
The station you are hearing is a Travelers Information Station (TIS) from Washington state. Hearing it in Brazil would indicate a good low vhf band opening. Here is their license information in case you want to try to qsl them

http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearch/licenseFreqSum.jsp?keyLoc=&licKey=3073649&archive=&x=5&y=10

It seems to be a pretty low power station.
