If you are looking to decode common modes such as hams use I suggest fldigi. It can be a lot of fun to do the VOA radiogram programs on Saturday & Sunday as they are intended to be decoded with fldigi. I also like multipsk although it has a god awful mess of buttons for an interface but it seems to work well & does lots more modes.

New frequencies for A14 season. 11780 clashes with RNA from Brazil (a non hfcc member) but 13650 is clear & did well last night. One odd thing is that all during the B13 season they were announcing the A13 frequencies. I thought this might change with the start of a new season...it did, now they are announcing the B13 frequencies (9710 & 11770) at the start of programming on 11780 & 13650.

Heard while walking with my PL 660. Very good signal with western pop music & closing announcement "...its midnight in Kuwait & we now close transmissions on 943 KHz MW , 93.3 FM & for our friends in Europe & North America 15540 KHz shortwave.."

I used to & in fact still do carry some type of shortwave radio pretty much everywhere I go. I have DX'ed & received QSL's from stations I picked up while riding the bus to & from work with the antenna poking out the window (KOL Israel, Radio Cairo & Radio Australia). I used to have a 20-30 minute wait at a bus stop that was next to a large & empty parking lot that had a chain link fence surrounding it, an entire city block with a loop around it. I would couple my DX398 to the fence & DX while I waited & a few times just waved the bus on & caught the next one when conditions were real good.  I carried my DX398 on the lobster boat I worked on when I lived off the coast of Maine. I have coupled my PL880 to the fence surrounding the football field at the high school where I work & dx'ed during football games. I once made a crude dipole from two parked cars in the parking lot of the restaurant where I was a sous chef & would DX during smoke breaks. I have used most everthing I can think of as an antenna for quick,on the spot dx'ing.

Shortwave Broadcast / Re: 15730 Radio Pakistan
« on: April 03, 2014, 1541 UTC »
Per HFCC & Aoki Radio Pakistan is in Chinese/Mandarin from 12:00-13:00 utc. English is listed at 11:00-11:05 on the same frequency.

0830-1100 on 15730 ISL 250 kW / 313 deg to WeEu Urdu
1100-1105 on 15730 ISL 250 kW / 313 deg to WeEu English
1200-1300 on 15730 ISL 250 kW / 070 deg to EaAs Chinese
1330-1530 on 15730 ISL 250 kW / 282 deg to N&ME Urdu

They register dozens of frequencies in HFCC but I don,t think they use any other then 17810 & 15730:

General Radio Discussion / BBC World Service documentary from 1982
« on: March 31, 2014, 1809 UTC »
With the closure this weekend of BBC Indian Ocean Relay station I got all nostalgic & watched this documentary again. I suppose most of us have seen this before but its still fun to watch....and remember how great "Auntie Beeb" used to be. Unfortunately its chopped up into four parts instead of one complete post.

That would have been Radio Marti. Usually has Cuban jamming along with the signal from Greenville. Its doubtful that anybody in Cuba can hear it....your tax dollars at work.

222
Heard this guy doing same contest on 20m tonight also giving 5 9  reports, as you can see on his QRZ page. He had to ask most of these stations to repeat their calls over & over before copying them. 5 & 9 ??
