I'm not really into & up to date on number stations like I used to be. I remember priyom sort of sucked for a while & enigma was the thing but enigma now seems to suck(imho) & priyom is rockin'. or maybe its just my perception of things. The fact that enigma gave me the boot might influence me a bit.

Equipment / Re: Preamplifier uses

When I bought a bunch of radio stuff about a year ago one of the things I bought was a preamp/tuner thing from MFJ & it is fairly worthless. Exactly as Chris says. It sort of looks cool if you are into having knobs & stuff to fiddle with but as a practical matter......it sucks.

Equipment / External speaker for R75
« on: July 17, 2014, 0149 UTC »
I've had my R75 for a while now (18 months I think) but I often don't use it because its tiny little speaker sucks & I don't always want to put on headphones because I can't hear whats going on around me when I have them on (I take care of my dad & need to be able to hear him). I bought an Icom sp-33 external speaker for the rig & now I use it constantly. It really has revitalized my dx'ing. The funny thing is that I've had the damn thing for more than a year but had somehow overlooked it. I bought a bunch of radio gear all at once when I had a bunch of money & just sort of forgot about it. I wonder what else I have that I forgot about?

Intuned at 1:30z but its very tough copy here. listening in usb w/ lots 'o' noise. seems best on 6924.14.

I've logged this station often but I don't like the crappy American pop music that they play. Today I heard a public service  announcement that they run daily but I never really listened to it before. It was advising  people to check their tire pressure & to know how to change a tire should the need arise. What seemed weird (to me at least) was that it was from "the department of moral guidance"   ??? ???

Yes I knew that from reading the posts as they were posted. Not only are they back but it is business as usual as GH's log shows.

from DXLD YG:

Here's what I've been able to assemble from various sources that I consider reliable about what can only be described as a truly catastrophic situation for Radio Australia. Keep in mind that RA management is left with few options, none of them good, in its efforts to preserve and maintain anything resembling a viable service for its regional and international audiences.

- The English Language Programming department (ELP) is effectively gutted. The only remaining RA productions in English appear to be some hourly news bulletins and the Pacific Beat program. All else, including the excellent Asia Pacific program, ceases.
- At least for the time being, RA intends to maintain a 24/7 English language service by pulling all of its content from ABC Radio domestic sources (except for the morsels described above). A revised ELP schedule is in preparation and will be announced and implemented shortly.
- Language services in Tok Pisin, Vietnamese, Khmer, Chinese, French and Burmese appear to remain but only in some skeletal form since about 3/4 to 4/5 of those staffs are to be axed. Again, it appears the plan is to pull some content from domestic sources, this time from SBS whose administration is likely to be housed with what's left of RA at Southbank in Melbourne as indicated in a previous press report.
- As unbelievable as this may sound, the situation is so dire and so immediate that there will be a culling of half of the journalists on staff via a random process -- no evaluations, experience, records of achievement or years of service considered.
- No reduction in shortwave schedules has yet been indicated, but it's hard to see how that continues unaffected and unabated beyond anything but the very short term.

Personally, I will reserve comment on all this at this time and let the facts speak for themselves. However, some of you will be aware of my admiration and appreciation for Radio Australia over the decades so you are free to draw your own conclusions in that regard.

logged by GH yesterday as:

** CUBA. 11635, July 14 at 2123, 5-digit Spanish YL numbers is stuck on only two of them: 2s and 3s over and over and over, with no pauses as monitored past 2127 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

The last time I heard CRI from Havana it had modulation for about 5 seconds of every minute. They also run RHC audio on occasion. It is the same as any other broadcast from Havana. The only thing I haven't heard them do is run HM01 audio but that doesn't mean they haven't done it. Its just standard RHC stuff. If CRI is paying them to relay their programs they should demand a refund but I don't think that's the case

Intuned just in time for e-mai addy & sstv. I guess it was Lord Hee Haw but I was fiddling with the BFO during ID/ e-mail. Decent signal for the 30 seconds I heard it. >:(

103
Very weak copy here. Only really able to detect carrier w/ BFO on Sat 750.

I heard quite a few weak CW beacons on 10 meters this morning. I haven't gone looking for 10m beacons in many, many months but conditions seemed good this morning. Unfortunately I didn't (don't) keep a log any more but tons of fun anyway.

Shortwave Broadcast / Re: WWV 25 mHz
« on: July 10, 2014, 1444 UTC »
I logged WWV on 25 Mhz at 14:45 utc today.  I hadn't tried for it since they first reactivated it. I couldn't hear it then but they were definitely there this morning but pretty weak ,never above S1.
