13740KHZ   CHINA RADIO INTER.   15:45UTC   English

The only reason I am posting this is to RANT!

If these folks are going to burn up 100KW of RF power please run your modulation as close to 100% as you can!  This transmission was at less than 50%  more like 20%... very hard copy even if you are running 100kw...

Is China using some of RHC's 'engineering' techniques?  I mean what's the story?

grrrrrrr!

Fair copy with deep fading RST 578

Fair copy because I am not using my CW filters.

There may be some openings on 10 meters if conditions hold.

HO-68 CW beacon =>435790MHZ 1530UTC 07/08/2014

Of course I had to follow the CW signal downward on the approach of the bird.  Fair signal considering my horror able receiving antenna... the 20 meter vertical  ::)

Just goes to show you really don't need a fancy antenna to at the least hear the CW beacons  ;)

HM01 11635 KHZ 07-01-2014 1800utc

I only report this because while they have a strong RF carrier (S9) the modulation seems to be less than 50% (<50%)

The voice seems almost audible but the dat signal is well below being audible even while using the dat detector.  Blown audio stage maybe or someone is asleep at the wheel  ::)

AM group on the east coast (WA1HLR etc) 3873 khz 0300 utc

Very good signals into Troy, Ohio tonight so conditions must be very good for other catches on the shortwave frequencies... I also have noted excellent signals from 80 meters up to 40 meters.

If there is a station you might want to try for it looks like tonight is the night...

I've always wanted to buy one of those 'toy' RC helicopters I see in the stores around Christmas time...

And now for the dream;

In this dream I did buy one of these toys, added to it a small... err perhaps a 100mw FM transmitters and a cheap MP3 player ($8 bucks)... sent it into the sky and played toonage for the masses...

Now with a buddy or two with like controllers said object flew several miles here and there and back again...  toonage for more of the masses...

Of course I would never use more than the legal limit if I did do this and I suspect I never would but... how high can U fly ;-)

Ideas often come of dreams I guess...

never mind... yeah just another brain fart... excuse please... ;-)

buzzer 17500 AM 1859utc 05/07/2014

S9 plus signal with some fading... the frequency is approximate because this appears to be a wide band signal.

I remember this one very well, now inactive so this is nothing more than history.  Nice web page tho...  I have been on the site in years past and the RFI it caused locally was intense... to say the very least.

Nice pics of the site tho, if you like check this one out:

Back in the 1970's I remember building a tuned ground system (long wire ground tuned with an antenna tuner) that helped in some cases to reduce local noise.  Has anyone else tried this and how did it work for you?

Also for those of us that might need info on different types of antenna construction I found this site and it seems to be quite nice:
