Shortwave Broadcast / Re: finding firedrake transmitter(s)
« on: September 03, 2010, 0004 UTC »
I'm not sure if ever I've heard the firedrake out here with all the other things I've heard, but am wondering when the best time is in the U.S. to listen for Firedrake would be if the signal even gets heard on this side of the world.

I've gotten interested in Firedrake ever since I've read about it and would love to catch this some time. I know the great people of China, Taipei / Taiwan hear it quite easily. Thanks for this post! If anyone ever gets closer to finding the TX site, please post it everywhere you can. We'd all love to hear about it!

Intro to Chinese "Firedrake" jammer - it (the audio) appears to be distributed via China Sat "6B" to places like the Hainan Island for transmitting on shortwave -

I had not experienced it either, but ran across it this evening while doing a web search for something else ...

Other / 6959 thru 6970 Strange Alarm Noise
« on: September 02, 2010, 2336 UTC »
Ah, well, that clears it up. Many thanks, very interesting. I would have never guessed to analyze it in that way. So, you're most likely correct, it must be civilian electronics.
Hmmm ... the plot thickens ...

I observed a signal like this, add: exactly like this, noted initially last night starting at 6959 kHz (while looking for pirates using a Degen/Kaito model 1103 portable) and over a few minutes it had moved up to 6961 ... then it was about 6964 ... and finally as high 6970 kHz after 10 minutes or so! ... and it had FADING on it, so, it was probably ionospherically propagated ... at times it completely faded out, then came back in ... weird ...

Sounds exactly like the signal PresentedIn4D has in his video ...

Been copying something for a short while - a man speaking - for a bit ... not enough to make anything out now ...

... some SSB traffic about 6925.5 speaking Spanish

Was initially copyable using a Degen 1103 portable ... but band cdx have changed for the worse the last few minutes ...

175
is a shame  i have been trying to hear him for most of the week down on 6305 with no luck (sorta) he is peaking at 3--5  ute is hitting a solid 10

Band cdx here have chgd; he's faded to just barely detectable now ...

176
Since then, a number of other distorted voices have appeared over the normal buzzing transmission, as well as knocks and shuffles, as if someone were moving things around inside the broadcasting room. It's believed that the transmission site has an open microphone, which occasionally picks up sounds from technicians working within the broadcast site.

Oh that's too good - a chance to hear some inside-ops stuff!

177
sounds like he made it MAD  ;)   kinda sounds like they is jammin him

Sounds that way ... like he rubbed the fur on a cat the wrong way ... re-hashing an old event the wife had long forgotten ... bringing up an old girl friends name on a wedding anniversary ...
