You might be interested in joining the HFU Rocket Chat. There's a sticky about it. Big crew of regulars there, and we cover a lot of the same ground.

General Radio Discussion / Re: Sad News: Don Schimmel has passed away

RIP, Don. I know the Confidential Frequency List wasn't his book, but since someone mentioned it, that book was also one that launched my interest in shortwave. After I got a scanner and a CB radio as a kid, I obsessively checked out every single book about radio that the local library had. Mostly ARRL stuff but, oddly, they had a copy of the Confidential Frequency List and I obsessed over it until I could cajole my parents into getting me a shortwave receiver. The abbreviated, terse descriptions of odd things heard on a frequency (example I still remember: "Tailpipe Perky") had me convinced I was going to be listening to spies and intrigue nonstop.

Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment at 2055 UTC. Variable signal, was S9 but kind of dipping now. Propagation changes!

274
Very nice signal here in the icy Boston burbs. S9+5 or so. Nice audio, electronic type music with female singer at 1610 UTC.

275
Van Halen at 1600 UTC. S8 in the icy Boston burbs.

HF Mystery Signals / Re: UNID 8000kHz persistent signal
« on: January 11, 2019, 1726 UTC »
Active, on and off here at 1725 UTC on Jan 11. Some pulsing/fluttering was noted on one of the "key downs" and then the signal was stronger. Almost like maybe an antenna tuner of some kind was quickly trying to match an antenna. Very strong here, S9+15.

I dunno, I always thought arigato was Japanese, guess I'm wrong.

Where in that clip did you hear arigato? I'm not disbelieving, I just didn't catch it.

I'd also vote to move this to the HF Mystery Signals because I don't quite think it fits the pesky profile.

Getting a strong American Indian or Canadian indigenous vibe from this. I don't think it's Asian language.

Rippin' huge S9+10 signal here in the Boston burbs, nice audio. Fast paced Euro style show with voice spots and music. Very interesting!

Radio Illuminati ID at 1630. Really excellent S9+10 signal in the Boston burbs. Montage of songs, op wants people to list the song titles as a sort of contest.

282
I also have the B52's at 1508 UTC. Nice S7-S8 signal. ID, then into U2 New Years Day at 1509 UTC.

283
Tune-in at 2020 UTC with an R&B kind of song I don't recognize. Very nice S8-S9 signal with some minor fading. Very nice signal and interesting choice of frequency, seems to work well for a lot of listeners!

284
Just flipped a switch, did you? Went straight to S9+10 from almost nil at around 1628 UTC.

285
Huge signal in the Boston burbs, peaking to S9+10 on the RSP2.

Partial India Radio announcer with Christmas wishe at 1622 UTC then into Merry Christmas & Happy New Year on sitar.
