General Radio Discussion / Re: Radio Mushroom QSL

That's the same card I got. Thanks for posting it! I'm still somewhat new here and haven't quite figured out what I have to do to post QSL's.

Sorry, I'll try to answer questions if I can (if you stick around). Conditions have been really sucky today. I've heard almost nothing in ham bands or international shortwave bands all day. Just hearing a little bit of something on 6925 that I can't make out at all.

Final ID suddenly came up out of nowhere here. I just mentioned it in another post. Signal was weak, only S1 or so. I've been hearing other voices in there on frequency, too.

I've been hearing various weak voices on the frequency but no music. Heard a fairly strong "Testing 1-2-3" but that is all of what it said.

Now (0045Z) I'm hearing what sounds like the tail-end of Rave On Radio that suddenly came up out of nowhere giving e-mail address and ID. Very weak and I wasn't hearing any of the program earlier.

Still hearing voices and what sounds like whistles at 0055Z. Signals really weak. Conditions have been terrible today. EVERYTHING on shortwave has been much weaker than it should be.

Alex_In_West, what kind of replies do you want?

Several years ago I copied an Undercoverradio transmission and sent the info to him by regular mail. To my surprise I received a large envelope which included an 8X10" QSL card and a CD with the whole program that was supposed to be broadcast. Only about the first half hour of the program was actually broadcast. I believe Dr. Benway said in an included note that the transmission took place from a beach in Jamaica.

Sure was a classy way to QSL, though!

HF Beacons / Dashes on 13559.8 kHz
« on: March 18, 2012, 1759 UTC »
I've been sitting here at 1745-1750Z on March 18 and listening to two dashers on about 13559.8 kHz. Both dashes are about a second long. They are on slightly different frequencies. They do not seem to be from the same source, as the spacing between the dashes is not the same for the two and at times they even overlap. I think they repeat approximately every 20 seconds. They disappear for lengths of time altogether due to QSB.

According to Spectrum Lab, they are about 100 Hz apart.

I have no idea of the source of these. Listening with a dipole.

Update at 1800Z: Yet another dasher has appeared another 120 Hz or so above the higher of the other two. This seems to be a busy frequency!

Updated/corrected posting again at 1824Z with more accurate info. The two lower dashers are consistently coming in quite well at the moment, maybe S3 or S3.

I just got a Radio Mushroom e-QSL, less than 24 hours from the broadcast. It was actually sent only 11 hours after my reception report e-mail.

The e-mail had this text with it:

"Hello Zack;

Sorry for creating such as mess again,  but whenever we power our transmitter with pure nuclear energy we always seem to create a mushroom cloud.

We were directly tapped into the core of a nuclear reactor last night which powered the broadcast you heard last night.  Thank you for listening and letting us know Radio Mushroom was heard.

Attached is our newest QSL confirmation card.  Handle it with care as it is probably a bit radioactive.

Radio Mushroom"

If I can figure out how to post a picture, I'll post the QSL too.

Thanks again Radio Mushroom!

I missed that. But I didn't have my full attention on it when I was receiving it. I should've just recorded it. Not fast enough on the trigger, I guess. Or I was pretty burnt out from the work day (which was a rough one) and not thinking quite right.

All signals I've heard tonight have been fairly strong in Urbana, IL. At least S9. Maybe I'm closer to some of them?

I think I got the date and time correct now. I'm still trying to compensate for DST. My computer running Windows XP keeps resetting itself to Standard Time.

Signal about S7 here. Very short transmission.

Good signal here, S7-S9 with QSB.

0000Z Sign-on with Into The Black, Neil Young

All Neil Young songs tonight.

Male voice reading groups of three phonetic letters, S9 here

Lima X-Ray Uniform is backwards Uniform Lima X-ray, a Mossad ID (this was definitely not the Mossad)

Signal about S9 here but QRN is also S9 on peaks.

Opened with Cisco Kid, next Lorelei by Styx.

HF Beacons / Re: Two 4096 dashers and TMP
« on: March 14, 2012, 1441 UTC »
I should've gotten up at around 1000Z to see if I could hear them. I heard a couple partial characters from the TMP beacon pop out of the noise last night at around 0500Z but nothing on any other frequency. I guess the CO beacon on ~3450 is gone? I haven't heard it since late last year.

That "55555" CW beacon on 7542 hasn't shown up again, either. I wonder what that was all about?
